Information for study with guitarists

First of all, thanks for agreeing to participating to our study! Your help is really valuable for our research, and we hope you’ll find the study interesting. As you know, you will try a new augmented guitar pick that we recently developed as part of a research project. The study is composed of 3 parts:

  • Part 1: Guitar pick collection. On the day that we agreed upon (if you haven’t done it yet, please pick a date at this spreadsheet), you’ll come to collect the guitar pick and the stomp box that controls it. We will meet outside the Engineering Building of Queen Mary University of London. It is in Mile End - E1 4NS (you can click on this link to open it on Google Maps). We will have a conversation about your performance practice and we will explain to you how the guitar pick works. We will also need to tune some parameters depending on the output of your guitar, so please bring your electric guitar* along (if you have more than one, possibly bring along the one you use the most). We will then give you the guitar pick and the control box and the well deserved £50! This will probably take less than 1 hour of your time.

  • Part 2: Test at home. For the successive 3 days you will test the guitar pick at home (or in the studio, or wherever you normally practice) for one hour a day (three hours in total). We will ask to perform specific tasks while testing it - we’ll tell you more when we meet for the Part 1.

  • Part 3: Guitar pick return. The 4th day after you collected the pick you will return to Queen Mary to return it. We’ll have a conversation in which you’ll tell us about your experience of playing with the pick. You will need to bring your guitar again as we might ask you to perform something using the pick. I believe that this meeting will take 1 to 2 hours.
