Drawing Machine (2020)

The Drawing Room is an artwork by Aaron Paterson, Sarosh Mulla and Marian Macken. The artwork presents an alternative kind of architectural drawing; it explores drawing in space, rather than of spaces, an exhibition which operates at both full-scale and scaleless. I have composed the soundscape of the artwork in SuperCollider. The idea was intensify the artwork’s movement through the space; specifically, spatial information of the apparatus, throughout its cycle, is detected and processed by an algorithm, which adapts the composition in real time. This results in timbre variations (e.g. number of harmonics, noise grain size, textural rhythm intensity), that follow the arc through the room. The Drawing Room was exhibited from 28th, 2020 - Feb 20th, 2021 at CoCa - Centre of Contemporary Art Toi Moroki, Christchurch, New Zealand.
