New soundscape installation at the Auckland University Library

I’ve recently completed Karanga, an installation that is now installed at the entrance of the University of Auckland’s General Library. It’s the first wholly sound-based artwork commissioned for the university’s art collection. I authored Astrolabe & Anthropocene, the first composition written for Karanga. The composition gradually evolves throughout the day and across days by aligning with cosmic rhythms, including tides, lunar phases, and Earth’s rotation, while also interacting with visitor movements. Karanga will be playing daily at the library entrance for the next several months so everyone in Tāmaki Makaurau can experience this unique interactive composition. Future plans include inviting global composers and our postgraduate students to create new pieces for Karanga, expanding its musical repertoire.

More information on this installation can be found at a dedicated article on UniNews and at this page.
